Travel down Otis Road SE between the river and the south end of Memorial Drive SE, and you will enter the area known as Cedar Valley. Many of the residents refer to it by its connection to the Historic Rompot Farms, which occupied this area until the development of the residential community in the mid 1900’s. The land was sold as “garden plots” to residents seeking enough fertile land to maintain small hobby farms but still be near to downtown. Over time, the area became a coherent neighborhood, though it has always remained a bit beyond major development interest. While not entirely within the 100 year flood plain, it was assumed much of the area might flood if a major event struck the area. The neighborhood has not historically received any significant city services, does not have storm sewers and is not served by the city buses.
